This project explored the journey as an individual with a dual cultural identity. An outsider, is a reflection of my connection to a heritage that feels both deeply bonded and distant. And through redefining souvenirs as a tool for exploring and expressing personal identity and the struggle in between.
This project draws on material culture theory and symbolism to examine how objects acquire cultural significance and mediate personal and collective identities.
This project reimagines souvenirs as dynamic tools for cultural dialogue, challenging the commodification of identity in global consumer culture. By movable souvenir stands set in urban landscapes, it explores the complex, identities of individuals with dual heritage. Through interaction and engagement emphasizing the evolving nature of cultural identity and the marginalized experiences of mixed-race individuals. Transforming everyday souvenirs into active participants in cultural discourse invites a deeper reflection on heritage, representation, and belonging.
